The severe weather overnight left piles of hail in yards and, in some cases, in houses with hail damage that broken windows. The worst of the hail — about 2 inches in diameter — moved east Wednesday evening across Plano, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reports. The storm system hit Lewisville before moving east to Plano between 10:15 to 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dennis Cain.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Dallas County just after 7 a.m. Thursday.
Damage
Many cars were damaged in Plano east of Preston Road and north of West Park Boulevard. The storms kept firefighters in Wylie busy most of the night as they worked to cover broken skylights. Multiple windows were smashed in an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Belt Line Road in Garland, near the Duck Creek Golf Club.
Lightning hit several houses. An occupied house was struck in the 5100 block of Prince Edward Court in Flower Mound. Lightning set a roof ablaze on a house under construction in Lewisville, near the Sam Rayburn Tollway and North Josey Lane.
The National Weather Service had several wind reports — there was a 75 mph wind gust near the Coppell-Irving city limits about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Collin County was hit with high winds too. Cain said they destroyed a barn and blew debris into power lines in Murphy just before 10:40 p.m.
